Along with the dismantling of USAID and its countless devastating effects, support for community-led development has shrunk significantly this year across the globe. Lives are being lost and futures are being destroyed - work that had been done in health, education, climate, economic growth, and more - has ended.
Small, local organizations deeply embedded in communities around the world have been among the hardest hit.
The problems are immense. We can't solve them all, and we can't solve them alone. With our network, we want to address the following:
Communities have been abandoned. Relationships built over years between governments, communities, and leaders around the world have been cast aside.
Local frontline responders face shutdown while delivery systems collapse.
Partners and communities fear retaliation for speaking out.
Deletion of public data leaves the American people in the dark.
Americans overestimate the amount that was spent on foreign aid, and support the one per cent of the federal budget that was dedicated to foreign assistance
Few American communities have opportunities to engage with the foreign assistance traditionally done on their behalf, leaving few supporters at home.
